Don't worry if its been a while
Sometimes we see children who's parents feel embarrassed that their children have not seen a dentist for sometime. Perhaps you haven't been able to find a dentist who was taking on children, you're aware your child's diet isn't perfect or you've had a stressful life situation that has meant going to the dentist wasn't possible. We understand, there is no judgement from us, we are just happy to see you and we are here to help
Tips for happy kids dental visits
Do relax! It doesn't matter if we don't get to look in your Childs mouth at the first visit, its quite normal for them to be apprehensive if they haven't been before. We prioritise getting to know your child, their preferences and making their experience a good one so that they are happy to come back. We've been known to do check ups in the garden before now!
Do consider a reward. They are good to motivate your child, particularly if its their first visit whether its choosing the place for the next dog walk, a family movie night or new toothbrush maybe?
Do bring a friend. We are experts in checking teddy's, doll's and transformer's teeth you know!
Don't discuss any bad dental experiences or your own fears about the dentist if you've had them in front of your child
Don't use phrases such as "it won't hurt" "you can be brave" It has the opposite effect!
We are a community dental support practice
We have been selected as a practice to support community dental services in Shropshire and Telford. This means we are experienced in treating nervous children and young people and those with additional needs. In fact, we love it, it's one of the most rewarding aspects on the job and we are proud of the many success stories we've had.
