Am I Suitable for Dental Implants?

Many people assume they are not suitable for dental implants.

They may have been told years ago that they do not have enough bone. They may have gum disease. They may smoke. They may have medical conditions. They may think they are “too old”.

The truth is simple:

You cannot know properly without an assessment.

What makes someone suitable for implants?

Dental implants need a healthy foundation.

That means we look at:

  • your gum health

  • the amount of bone available

  • your general health

  • your medication

  • your bite

  • your cleaning habits

  • whether you smoke

  • what you want the implant to do

Most adults with good general health may be suitable, but each case needs individual assessment.

What if I have gum disease?

Gum health is very important.

Implants need healthy gums and good daily cleaning to last well.

If you have active gum disease, we would usually want to stabilise this first. That does not always mean implants are impossible. It means we need to get the foundations right.

This is not a barrier. It is a step.

What if I have lost bone?

Bone loss can happen after teeth are removed.

Sometimes there is still enough bone for an implant.Sometimes extra treatment may be needed.Sometimes another option may be more sensible.

This is why scans and careful planning can be useful.

We do not guess. We assess properly.

Am I too old for implants?

Age alone is not usually the main issue.

Health, healing, cleaning ability, and bone quality often matter more than age.

Some older patients are excellent candidates. Some younger patients may need other issues sorted first.

It depends on the person, not just the number.

What if I am not suitable?

Then we tell you honestly.

That is important.

Dental implants are excellent when they are the right treatment. But they are not the right treatment for everyone.

If implants are not suitable, we can talk about other ways to replace missing teeth, including dentures or bridges.

The aim is not to push you into treatment. The aim is to help you make a good decision.

The best first step

If you are wondering whether implants are possible, book an assessment.

You may have more options than you think.
